2.1 "Panda" Alpha1 Released

Published Tue Jul 22 21:09:51, 2008 by AlexC in Announcements

The first alpha release of the upcoming major version of TangoCMS, 2.1 (codenamed "Panda"), has been released and available for Download for you all to test out.

Improvements

There have been many general improvements and features added to the codebase that forms 2.1.0-alpha1, one of which is a dramtic speed/performance increase. As it stands, 2.1 Alpha1 is 70-80% faster than the current stable, 2.0, release. Not only does this make TangoCMS faster, it means it can support a much larger amount of traffic going to it.

The clunky old Module Manager has got a refreshing new (or heavily improved) interface. Each module now has their own icon, making it easier to see where a module is, with this we have also removed the 'config' link, and instead the module icon and title will go to the configuration part of the module. A simple JavaScript 'filter' has also been added, allowing you to search for the module you want and the interface will instantly update!

Hooks are now fully implemented (the library for it, at least), due to this the Alias module is now fully part of TangoCMS with no specific code in Zula (the framework) to provide URL Aliases. As hooks are implemented, we have a new module as well, Editor. This provides the graphical editor using MarkItUp, however it no longer supports just MediaWiki syntax, we have support for HTML and Plain Text as well.

Things to Come

For a full list of things to come, see the planned Blueprints for 2.1-panda. While we can't guarantee all of those features will be implemented, many of them will.

Do test the alpha1 release, however please understand that is it not to be used for production environments.
